Magaluf

Magaluf is located in the southwest of Mallorca and is close to Palma city and the airport.  It’s approximately a 25 minute drive from the airport, 29km/18miles.  From Palma city centre it’s around 23 minutes.

Magaluf in the daytime

Magaluf boasts an extensive white sandy beach.  The turquoise waters of the bay have gently formed a crescent shaped beach over time.  It’s just under 1km long, which is around the length of 10 football fields.

There are many sunbeds to hire and watersports activities to participate in such as taking a pedalo out or riding a banana boat, jet-skiing or paragliding etc.  For SCUBA diving there is a school in the adjoining resort of Palma Nova.

Many bars and restaurants are easily accessible from the large promenade around the beach front.  It is possible to walk from Magaluf to neighbouring Palma Nova in around 10 minutes but not continually along the sea front.

Magaluf promenade is separated from Palma Nova by the headland.  The two resorts are however joined through the town so you would need to take a slight detour to walk the length of both promenades in one go.

Magaluf at night

Magaluf is famous for its nightlife. The party scene is found in an area which is known as ‘the Strip’ – the Punta Ballena road.  This is the first road set back from the beach, running parallel with the sea.  Most of the popular bars and nightclubs can be found here.

The party scene really gets going late in the evening when revellers spill out from bars and clubs and crowd the street.  There are also plenty of family entertainment places in this area but for earlier in the evenings.

Things to do in and around Magaluf

Western Water Park

Western Water Park in Magaluf is located just out of town and is a little bus or taxi ride.  There are free buses from Magaluf but there are also a couple of public buses (104,105).  However, it can also be reached fairly easily by walking.

The facilities include a large number of water slides for all levels of thrill seeking.  There are various pools and a special area for small children. In addition to the slides and pools there is a breathtaking diving show by professional divers. The water park is open every day from May to September.

Sol Wave House Hotel

Non hotel guests are welcome to this venue on the sea front in Magaluf, there is no admission charge.  The facilities include a bar and restaurant, Bali beds and the pool area.  Of course there are the spectacular artificial waves machines!

The hotel has a “Flow Rider double” for beginners and the “Flow Barrel 10” for the more experienced or adventurous.  The machines produce a constant jet of water to form an artificial wave to surf or body board on.  The flow of water creates a sheet of surface water 5cm deep to ride on.  The flow of water is over a structure shaped as a wave with a special soft and flexible surface so as to avoid injury when falling.

You will need to bring ID and if under 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.  There are also minimum height restrictions, 107cm to Bodyboard and 132cm to Flowboard.  The prices for an hour are around €25 for the Flow Rider double and €40 Flow Barrel 10.

Karting Magaluf

There is a large Karting track on the edge of Magaluf to the south just past the Pirates Adventure show.  The track is large and has plenty or areas for over taking.  It is suitable for all levels and ages, even from as young as three years of age due to the various kart sizes and differing engine powers.

The circuit is open every day in the summer and part-time in the winter.  You can book online or by calling.

Katmandu Park

Katmandu Park is a theme park based around an upside down house.  There are various interactive educational and fun attractions to experience and discover here.

The Park recommends that visitors allow themselves between 4 to 6 hours to enjoy all the attractions.  Some of the features include; puzzles, games, a 4D cinema, a distinct crazy golf experience, etc.

The theme park is in Magaluf on Avenida Pedro Vaquer Ramis, 9, but could be considered as being between the two resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova.

Pirates Adventure Dinner Show

The Pirates Adventure is a show which includes dinner.  The tables are laid out before the stage ready for dinner then the show.  The show is lively and has an outstanding reputation for pirate adventure, comedy, dancing and  acrobatics performed to lively music.

There is a separate show (a different show) for adults only 18+, ‘Pirates Reloaded’.  Pirates reloaded features scantily clad performers and an adult twist to the show.  These adult shows are from 10:30pm and they only include a drink and snacks.

Pirates Adventure is to the south of Magaluf only 500m or so from the beach but on the edge of town.  However, it is quite possible to walk.  You can book your tickets in advance online or directly at the pirates center or with a tour operator if you have one.

Boat Trips

There are a number of boat trips from Magaluf such as Booze cruises, Catamaran trips and boat trips to Palma.  Some of these are for a few hours others for half a day or more and some will include food and drinks.

The booze cruises have become very popular where the object is to go on a boat trip with plenty of drinks and fellow party goers.  Like the catamaran trips there are places where the vessel will moor for a chance for passengers to jump in and swim.

There are also boat trips for dolphin watching, visiting little islands and coves and another for visiting Palma city from Magaluf.  The boat for Palma leaves in the morning 9am and returns just after lunch 2:30pm, which allows around three hours for exploring Palma.

For tickets, there is a sales information display on the beachfront in Magaluf and Palma Nova.  Many of the trips from Magaluf leave from the pier at Magaluf.

Craft Market

In the summer there is a craft market held daily from 7pm up to midnight although it is on the sea front at Palma Nova, Passeig del Mar.
