Ryanair Introduces Enhanced Alcohol Regulations on UK Flights to Palma de Mallorca

Saturday, June 17th, 2023

In an effort to prioritize passenger comfort and safety, Ryanair, the renowned budget airline, has implemented new and enhanced alcohol regulations on flights departing from the UK to Palma de Mallorca and several other destinations. These measures aim to address an increase in disruptive incidents and ensure a pleasant and secure travel experience for all passengers.

Restrictions on Duty-Free Alcohol

Passengers travelling from the UK to popular destinations like Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Malaga, and Tenerife South will no longer be permitted to bring alcohol purchased from duty-free shops into the aircraft cabin. Instead, duty-free alcohol must be securely packed in an appropriate bag and handed over to Ryanair staff to be placed in the aircraft hold.

To comply with the new regulations, passengers must ensure that the bag used to store duty-free alcohol is sufficiently sturdy and suitable for transportation in the aircraft hold. Plastic bags, for example, are not accepted. Passengers without an appropriate bag may be required to dispose of the alcohol in the designated bins provided.

Passengers attempting to conceal alcohol or failing to comply with the new regulations may face being denied boarding or removal from the flight without refund or compensation.

Addressing Anti-Social Incidents

The implementation of these alcohol restrictions by Ryanair is a direct result of a series of anti-social incidents on their flights. Notably, in April, fifteen individuals were removed from a Manchester flight due to intoxicated behaviour, causing a significant delay of five hours. As part of their commitment to passenger safety and well-being, the airline has expanded these measures to include the removal of passengers displaying any signs of anti-social behaviour on flights to the above destinations.

Safety Remains the Top Priority

Ryanair emphasizes that the safety of customers, crew, and aircraft remains their utmost priority. By implementing these new regulations and taking various preventive measures, the airline aims to mitigate disruptive behaviour and create a safer, more enjoyable flying environment for all passengers.
