From Friday, the 15th of October 2021, it will once more be possible for non-travellers to enter the terminal building at Palma Airport. This move has been announced in relation to the continually improving pandemic situation in Mallorca and in the rest of Spain.
Since July 2020, access to the airport building had only been permitted to passengers with a valid boarding pass up to 6 hours before their scheduled flight time. Exceptions were made only for people assisting passengers with a disability or accompanying minors travelling alone. The measure had been introduced in an effort to limit the number of people inside the terminal and to allow for social distancing.
The lifting of the access restrictions will make it possible again to accompany departing passengers into the airport building. Those staying behind will be able to help with luggage, to bid farewell, or to stay for a quick drink if there is a little time to spare. Arriving passengers can be met in the public arrivals hall. This will allow friends and relatives to welcome their loved ones on the other side of the baggage reclaim area and to lend a hand with the heavy suitcases. Anyone who has pre-booked an airport transfer will once more be collected by their driver at the meeting point inside the terminal.
Other Covid safety measures, like social distancing and the wearing of face masks inside the airport building, will remain in place. Therefore, during particularly busy times, the airport authorities may deem it necessary to temporarily limit the number of people accessing the terminal building to avoid overcrowding.
