Entering Mallorca with a PCR test: 9 things to be aware of
Saturday, November 28th, 2020
- Language: Passengers entering Mallorca (and the rest of Spain) must present a PCR report in Spanish, English, French or German so that it is accepted in the relevant controls that are already installed in ports and airports.
- Type of test: Only PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) or TMA (Transcription Mediated Amplification) tests are permitted. At the moment, other types of tests such as rapid antibody tests, rapid antigen detection tests or high-throughput serologies will not be accepted. Travellers entering Spain by plane and boat must present a negative PCR test carried out 72 hours before their trip, regardless of their usual place of residence or nationality, if they come from a country or region declared to be a risk zone.
- What if you don’t bring a test? If the passenger does not carry the test result with him at the airport, he will be required to take an antigen test and will likely be fined. Children under the age of six are exempt and do not need to present a test result.
- Fine: Depending on the impact that non-compliance has had on the health of the population, they can reach up to 3,000 euros for minor ones, and up to 60,000 euros for serious ones, according to the Public Health Law. In addition, entry to passengers from non-European countries may be denied if these obligations are not met.
- Presentation of electronic test: It can be presented both on paper and in digital format.
- PCR report information: passenger data: name and surname and passport or ID number; date of the test; type of test; test result (which must be negative) and laboratory contact details.
- Refusal to take the test once at the airport: Health checks on arrival in Mallorca are mandatory for passengers arriving throughout Spain by air or sea. Failure to comply with the rule entails the application of the corresponding sanction, as established by the Ministry of Health.
- Payment of the test for passengers who do not provide it: They should not pay it when it is carried out at Palma Airport. The cost of the antigen test will be borne by the authorities. However, when this is due to the fact that the rule of carrying a negative PCR result has not been met, the traveller will be penalized.
- Result of the airport antigen test: It will be available approximately one hour after the test has been carried out.
